fedex find

A friend picked up a book for me at FedEx the other day.  I kind of scoffed at the idea of reading a book found at a shipping center.  Was it recyclable into packing material?  Would I rather recycle it into packing material than waste my time?

Anyway, this book was awesome!  It's entitled "Show Your Work" by Austin Kleon.  I read the whole thing in an hour and it won't be the only time I read it.  It has some valuable, relatable, workable information.  Highly recommend to anyone in a creative field who doesn't think they've "made it".  An even higher recommendation to those who do think they've "made it".

There was one point about the creative process that hit a nerve with me.  I realized the idea of giving your process away, not holding on to ideas, items, processes, not hoarding is similar to all the advice about getting rich.  About how to handle money.  Not to indiscriminately spend and share but not to be stingy either.  Sharing your ideas and knowledge produces or makes room for more knowledge and ideas.  Just as making sound investments and circulating your money can generate more.

It's very interesting to me.  It's a way of life.  The idea of "allowing room" can permeate every area of one's life.  Something to work on...
